Children's Eternal Rainforest Night Hike

The Children's Eternal Rainforest (BEN) has more than 22,000 hectares of protected primary and secondary forest and areas in regeneration. It has been maintained thanks to the efforts of children, adults, schools, and other organizations in more than forty countries.

Considered the most extensive private reserve in Costa Rica and part of the UNESCO Water and Peace Biosphere, its mission is to maintain, preserve, and rehabilitate local ecosystems and their biodiversity through environmental education, reforestation, research, protection, sustainable development, and ecotourism.

On a night walk, you’ll be immersed in  the sounds, scents, and sensations from the flora and fauna of a transitional forest (a border region between cloud forest and rainforest) from a different perspective at night. 

During the night, many species that are hidden during the day emerge and remain active, increasing the chance of sighting different insects, birds, and even nocturnal mammals.

Your guide will help you identify animals and plants hidden in the nighttime forest, provide important information about the natural history of the species you will find, and help you understand and appreciate the drastic differences between day and night in Monteverde’s forests. 

Important Notes: 

• We limit tours to a maximum of 9 participants per guide for better enjoyment.
• Encountering wildlife is not guaranteed. Exploring the reserve with your guide will give you the best chance to spot some of the many species that inhabit the cloud forest, but ultimately you are venturing into the natural habitat of wild animals, whose behavior is impossible to predict with certainty.
